Choosing music to the one of the most important days in your life can be quite tricky if you’re not one of those couples who have a song you call “your song”. Here’s our top 12 “I-will-love-you-forever” wedding songs.
12. I got you babe (Sonny & Cher)
While Sonny and Chers’ marriage turned out to last no more than 9 years, they did make some pretty awesome songs about love. Is this about eternal love? Maybe not, but it sure is about being madly in love with someone – no matter how crazy it seems.
11. I will always love you (Dolly Parton)
Whereas we’ve all sort of grown tired of the never dying Bodyguard cover of this tune, we think the original version by the queen of country music is well worth mentioning. If you prefer the wailing of good old Whitney Houston – go for it! Either way it’s a great song.
10. Everything I do (I do it for you) (Bryan Adams)
This power ballad from 1991 is widely played on weddings all over the world. We quite like the jagged voice of Mr. Adams and somehow it reminds us of how great love really is. Alas. Perfect for a day dedicated to love.
9. You raise me up (Josh Groban)
We believe this pretty much sums up what a marriage is all about. To lift each other up and help each other to be better than we ever thought we could be. To always have someone by and support you no matter what.
8. I can’t help falling in love with you (Elvis Presley)
Good old Elvis. Regardless of whether he’s dead or not, this is a kick ass love song. Did you know that it was inspired by a French song from 1780, Plaisir d’amour, by a guy called Jean Paul Martini? Fun trivia to the highlight of the wedding – you’re welcome.
7. Today (Joshua Radin)
If you’re a fan of TV-series Scrubs this song is a given at your wedding. Being friends with Zack Braff, Radin has had several songs featured on the show, but with lines like “When there was no one else I sat beside you and became myself” this should be a great fit for any wedding.
6. You were meant for me (Sting)
I first heard this song in the movie “The object of my affection” with Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd – and it was just one of those songs that I instantly grow very fond of.
5. Your song (Elton John)
We love Elton John, and had a hard time choosing between this classical love song and the very catchy ‘Can you feel the love tonight” from the Disney classic, the Lion King. Well. We chose this one just because life is pretty wonderful with that special someone in the world.
4. There you’ll be (Faith Hill)
This is, no doubt, one of Faith Hills most loved songs (even though featured on the Pearl Harbour sound track). No doubt this will bring out a tear or two from in-laws and friends, so keep tissues near.
3. Lucky (Jason Mraz feat Colby Caillat)
This duet by “I’m-yours-Jason Mraz” and Colby Caillat always gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling. And don’t we all dream of finding that special someone who isn’t just a boy/girlfriend but also your best friend?
2. Hymne a l’Amour (Edith Piaf)
What would a top 12 wedding song list be without some French amour? For those of you who have seen the movie about Piaf you know the story behind this song. For those of you who haven’t – it’s about that one love that overcomes all. Simple as that.
1. Remember when (Alan Jackson)
Getting married is all about creating a life together and, for most, sticking together through good times, and bad. So, yes, I can overlook Alan’s balding head and pony tail. This IS love.
